Building a Database using Unconventional Sources: Squirrels of India
نویسندگان
چکیده
Squirrels, like most other small mammals, have been poorly documented in the Indian subcontinent, which deters us from understanding species declines and prioritizing research on sensitive taxa (McKinney 1999, Koprowski Nandini 2008). They are diverse their habits morphology perform important ecological roles, including seed dispersal, pollination, regulating plant growth. also form a significant prey base for many predators. Squirrels respond strongly to pressures around them, urbanization, habitat modification, climate change, can thus act as model study systems (Sol et al. 2013). The first step how such changes is by gaining knowledge of where they occur. rapid spread internet connectivity access mobile technology across India allow large-scale secondary data ways that were not possible decade ago. We created pan-India database 30 squirrels using primary (from fieldwork) sources (museum records, published gray literature), citizen science portals (six sources), social media platforms (14 sources). use increasing exponentially India, yet these remain largely unexplored source harvesting biodiversity information. Building a Terminological Database from Heterogeneous Definitional Sources
An obstacle to understanding results across heterogeneous databases is the ability to determine conceptual connections between differing terminologies. In this paper, we present the two step approach which we have used to build a terminological database in order to address this issue. First we automatically built a heterogeneous collection of terms and definitions from two types of dynamic sour...
متن کاملProbiotic isolates from unconventional sources: a review
The use of probiotics for human and animal health is continuously increasing. The probiotics used in humans commonly come from dairy foods, whereas the sources of probiotics used in animals are often the animals' own digestive tracts. Increasingly, probiotics from sources other than milk products are being selected for use in people who are lactose intolerant. These sources are non-dairy fermen...
متن کاملA review of unconventional sustainable building insulation materials
a r t i c l e i n f o Building insulation is commonly realized using materials obtained from petrochemicals (mainly polystyrene) or from natural sources processed with high energy consumptions (glass and rock wools). These materials cause significant detrimental effects on the environment mainly due to the production stage, i.e. use of non-renewable materials and fossil energy consumption, and ...

Natural products used as food or drinks, clues from the fascinating science of zoopharmacognosy, terrestrial animals and their excreta, and many other NPs not primarily known for their medical use, seem to have, to a great extent, escaped the attention of natural product research. It is nevertheless highly probable that these sources could contain biologically active compounds, some of which wi...
